ap courses
a year of college,
one exam in may
ap classes move at college pace and end in a single sitting. falling two weeks behind in one is not like falling two weeks behind anywhere else.
the courses
ap us history
the dbq, the leq, periodisation, and a rubric that is a checklist.
ap biology
experimental design, data analysis, chi-square, connecting scales.
ap chemistry
particle-level explanation, equilibrium, thermodynamics, labs.
ap calculus
ab and bc. setup, justification in words, accumulation, series.
ap english language
rhetorical analysis, synthesis, argument, and the three rubric rows.
the thing every
ap exam has in common
they are scored against a published rubric, and the rubric is mechanical. points are awarded for specific moves — a contextualising paragraph, a justification in words, a piece of commentary that explains rather than restates. an answer that knows the material and does not make those moves scores below one that knows less and does.
which means the fastest improvement is almost never more content review. it is finding out, on a piece of work you already did, which rubric row you keep missing.

the sat and the act land in the same year for most people — see test prep. for the coursework underneath, subjects. if it has already got away from you, catching up.
