where it usually goes wrong
the six that cost
the most marks
limits and indeterminate forms
0/0 is not an answer, it is a signal that something cancels. knowing which tool — factoring, conjugates, l’hôpital — is the actual skill.
the chain rule, layered
one layer is fine. three is where terms go missing. implicit differentiation is the same rule with y treated as a function of x.
related rates
nearly all the difficulty is before calculus starts: draw it, name the variables, write the relationship, and only then differentiate with respect to time.
optimization
the constraint is what turns two variables into one. after that it is a derivative and a sign check.
choosing an integration method
u substitution, by parts, trig substitution or partial fractions. the integral tells you which, if you read its shape first.
series convergence
a stack of tests that all look applicable. ratio, comparison, alternating and integral each answer a different question.
what to post
a photo of the problem, or a sentence about where you got stuck. set the deadline and attach anything that matters — the sheet, your working, the slides.
