where the points go
six things that decide
the score
the maths is not advanced
arithmetic, algebra, a little geometry and a lot of reasoning about quantities. the difficulty is in the framing, not the syllabus.
data sufficiency is its own skill
on the gmat side, the question is whether you could answer, not what the answer is. solving all the way through is a time leak.
gre vocabulary lives in context
words are tested inside sentences with a logical pivot. finding the pivot usually beats knowing every word.
both tests adapt
the difficulty responds to how you are doing, so pacing and guessing strategy matter more than on a fixed test.
the essay is a form
structure, a clear position, and named weaknesses in the argument. it rewards a repeatable shape rather than flair.
score targets are programme-specific
what counts as a good score depends entirely on where you are applying, which should set how long you prepare.
what to post
a photo of the question you got wrong, or a sentence about the section that keeps costing you. the useful thing is usually not the answer — it is why the answer you chose looked right.
